You become who people believe you to be… However, if you fall short, you’ll be falling quite hard. To create a LinkedIn profile that stands out in a crowd, is an art mastered by few, but these days becoming an increasingly important skill to have.
While your mind is still fresh and your trimming that extra holiday weight, why not get your personal profile also in order…
Here are 5 tips to get you started:
1. Ensure you have a fully completed profile
Sounds silly? Well you’ll never guess how many walking half-wonders we’ve got our there roaming the earth.
Make sure the following is done:
- Personal information is fully completed – that includes personalising your URL
- Have a hard hitting to the point summary
- Ensure all your employment history is up-to-date.
2. Highlight your expertise
This is your only differentiator you’ve got when people are looking through thousands of candidates. Include it in your employment history and summarise it by lacing it through your summary’s content.
3. Create a call to action
Most people will contact you on InMail, however where possible also guide them to your other social media handles and platforms, your website or other 3rd party environments that supports who you are and what you do.
4. Include a photo
Make sure the photo you upload is actually a true reflection of what you look like NOW and not like the better, thinner and younger you. As we move into a digital era it is important to be authentic and true, as that creates trust and trust is selling like hotcakes at the moment.
5. Post consistently
LinkedIn is not Instagram, so please don’t post photos of the sweaty #trainingdone version of yourself. What you post should be consistent with building your personal brand. Try and curate some relevant content and see if you can get your posting up to 2-3 times a week.
Make life happen for yourself by taking small steps to improving what you offer to others of yourself.
